Phil Wells our Manager since October 2004 left us last month for pastures new. Phil had worked for the company both in Chard and previously at Tiverton and Exeter.  Phil (AKA Cougar Wells)  is renowned for his rock climbing skills and his passion for climbing gave us all the incentive to ‘give it a go’.  This year, as in previous years Phil rallied round staff and customers to attempt a sponsored climb which became a popular fund raising event for Childline, our sponsored charity.  A well respected Manager and work colleague; we wish him all the best for his future.

Simon Neal

Simon Neal, manager of our City Drainage department has taken over the role of Branch Manager here at Chard.  Simon is not just well known for his management skills nor his knowledge of drainage, plumbing & heating. When he’s not wearing his management hat he can be found stalking the streets at night past the bright lights; big cities (or is that big wheels and generators?) and things that go bump in the night. Simon is Chairman of the Eclipse Carnival Club.   Uh … oh! Do they do sponsored climbing on carnival floats …………. ?

Once again, the City Plumbing Chard 2011 beginners sponsored rock climb,  held on the 17th july,  was a complete success,  with all five of the first group reaching the top of the 120ft diff classic  ” Mucky gully”  at the Dewerstone venue,  on the south western edge of Dartmoor.

With 2 more climbers still to attempt their climb in two weeks time,  I am optimistic that we will match our last years total of £1300.00 raised in support of Childline/Nspcc.

Big thank you to all the brave participants who risked all for a great cause,  and also massive thanks to Robbie and Paula at Dartrock indoor climbing centre, www.dartrock.co.uk   who once again loaned us the extra equipment we needed for our event,  cheers guys,  everything was so much smoother for not having to continualy swap harnesses rock shoes and helmets!   Dartrock is a fabulous all weather climbing facility just off the A38 at Buckfastleigh, South Devon,  they run a wide selection of climbing courses to suit all abilities,  or if you already climb,  you can enjoy the climbing and yummy cake just about all day every day!   

Just remains for us to get the monies pledged from our generous sponsors in to Childline/Nspcc,   and see how much we can raise!!

The City Plumbing Chard 2011 sponsored rock climb is now confirmed for Sunday July the 17th,  at the beautiful and picturesque Dewerstone, on the south western edge of Dartmoor!

Yes, we’re at it again! City plumbing supplies, Chard, will be holding another charity rock climb in July 2011.
We are looking for 10 volunteers to risk all, to raise as much money as we can for Childline/NSPCC.
The event will take place at an outdoor rock venue, somewhere in the south west,  during July 2011, date and exact venue to be confirmed. The event will be ideal for beginners, and all equipment will be provided free of charge.
Anyone taking part will need to raise a minimum sponsorship of £50.00, although naturally we are hoping for as much as possible from each participant!
The last two climbing events, in 2007 and 2010, raised over £1200.00 each.

Yes!  …the’ve done it again!
Once again our novice rock climbing team have passed the £1000-00 mark in their fund raising attempts.The current running total is; £1023.51!

In these difficult economic times, with less money about, I think it’s a real good effort from the seven climbers that took part. We always tend to understate the generosity of the public in support of a good cause, so here’s a big thank you, on behalf of Nspcc/Childline,  and our intrepid climbers, to everyone who made a pledge to the climbing team. Your selflessness is appreciated, and your money is now on it’s way to the Nspcc/Childline account. We have many photos of the event, and a narrative from one of the participants on display in the branch, along with receipts for the sponsorship money raised. If you would like to see any of this via e mail, just drop a line to me, at phil.wells@cityplumbing.co.uk and I will send any or all of the above by return.
And..It’s not too late to make a donation! Just call in at the branch, send a cheque,   or,  we now have a debit/credit card facility, for anyone who would like to make a donation by phone.
